A globally renowned educator, composer and performer, Ustād Sukhwant Singh is a revivalist of the Sikh musical tradition known as Gurmat Sangeet. 

 

A form of devotional music, Gurmat Sangeet is based on the words and teachings of the Ten Gurus as ascribed in the Holy Book, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It is a lesser-known fact that the Gurus, trained in the Indian classical music, ascribed rāgās and even time signatures to these Sabads (hymn/s, religious messages, or poems). This 500-year-old legacy is seated at the heart of the Sikh faith itself by being a medium of communication of its divine message.
